Nasi Ulam is basically a rice salad. Local Malay dish, used to be made in the kampung with whatever herbs are available in the backyard and seasoned with belacan and/or salted fish. Then, eaten with a sambal chilli. Poor man's food. Now, an exotic flavour.

Bunga kantan gives the dish an quite amazing freshness and sweetness. Also used coriander, mint, kunyit leaves, curry leaves, raw shallots, kaffir lime leaves. All minced up for the toss up. Add some pepper. Salt is optional, depending on the mix of belacan, salted fish, etc.
