Toasted garden harvest cake

Breakfast is getting boring even if the garden harvest cake is toasting up nicely. With a bit of crisp edge. Baking time soon ...

King Oyster mushrooms

I recently discovered mini king oyster mushrooms. They are really nice, just stir fry with some oyster (the seafood kind!) sauce and crunchy greens. I added some pasta to my dish for a full meal. 16 July 2017 I saw this recipe for roasted (king) oyster mushrooms sometime ago and thought it was really easy and looks delicious. http://buddhagate.org/bgm_recipes/Vegetarian/recipes/week03/Menu1/English.html Well, I finally bought the king oyster mushrooms but decided to saute it in the wok instead, and make it 'dry'. It's really easy, just cut the mushrooms, saute with some soya sauce. In a non-stick wok, you don't even need to add oil. There will be quite a bit of liquid from the mushroom after a while. Remove some of this liquid, otherwise it will take a very long time for the mushrooms to 'dry' up. Use the extra mushroom-soya-sauce liquid for other dishes later. Dry saute at first. Mushroom liquid and soya sauce. Remove some of this. L

Chocolate molten cake - take 2

Great. I had a decadent breakfast last Saturday morning. I made my 2nd attempt at the chocolate molten cake recipe - for 1 portion. I think it turned out ok. Unbaked After baking for about 15 mins The spot Lava flow

Made in China - improving

I am eyeing this one ... it does wet mop too.

Chocolate molten cake - take 1

How do you divide 3 eggs by 4? The recipe below serves 4 with 3 eggs. Large eggs. So silly me thought I could use 1 small egg instead to make 1 serving. It turned out too wet. The chocolate lava spilt out the moment I turned the ramekin over. I am going to make another attempt. This time, I will not add the whole egg mixture. Maybe a little bit more flour and a bit longer in the oven. So many possible tweaks. http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/1753648/easy-chocolate-molten-cake Major lava spill ...

Baking with leftover juicing pulp

Collected a few days' of juicing pulp in the freezer and finally, baked it for breakfast munchies. I based it on a 'garden harvest cake' recipe (link below) but made it savoury with cheese, a bit of salt, provencal herbs, greek yoghurt instead of buttermilk and no sugar. Also had no walnuts to add in yesterday. It was very moist. The pulp used were mainly carrot, celery and apples. I think it will toast up better tomorrow. http://www.myrecipes.com/recipe/garden-harvest-cake

Simplified Bibimbap

Made bibimbap ingredients in advance for weekday dinners. This is a simplified meal, not using hot stones. The main ingredients are the chilli pepper paste ( gochujang ) and fermented soybean paste. Magic mix. The fermented soybean paste is not in the picture. This dish just happens to be meatless.

The old writers

I first noticed these words in a novel. Only the first three lines as the writer was describing a fear and restlessness but not a seeking of the divine. I looked for them later and there they were, in the Service Book in church. Part of the Evening Prayer, it may seem out of sorts for us city dwellers with lights everywhere, all the time. But, the night is still there, darkness still in us. These writers of old, they write so well. Or maybe they just knew their God better. in your mercy defend us from all perils and dangers of this night

Paper clay

Sometime in 2013 in a children's craft class, I made some samples of paper clay pendants using cookie cutter. Added the hook so that it could be used as a pendant to hang on a chain. Painted with acrylic and finished up with varnish. Front view of the pendants. Back view of pendants.

Paper mosaic

That red, blue and white tile is a paper mosaic coaster. Made in 2012 as a sample when I was helping out with a children's craft class. With Mod Podge sealer, it's supposed to be (semi) waterproof. I think I only have this picture as a keepsake. I have either misplaced the tile or donated it to the children's group. Home made can look nice too.

Crack and pop

I just paid $110 for an osteopath to inflict pain on my aging body for 30 minutes . Twisted again, knotted on the right shoulder and right waist. She applies pressure on the problem areas, breathe in, breathe out. Crack and pop, sore for a day, don't cross my legs when sitting and it will be better tomorrow. I hope so. Even fat cats are flexible.

Bread day

Bread day is happy day. I tried a new recipe yesterday and the loaf is like white sandwich bread. And after so many years, I finally used the dough hook on my mixer for the first time. Reduced some of the elbow grease but I still finished it up with some hand kneading. http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/1916656/easybake-bread

Apple Chocolate Muffin

A few weeks ago, I wanted to make some fruity muffins but I had no eggs at home. So, I googled for some recipes and this one from BBC is good. Very light. And for once, I was surprised that the amount of sugar in the recipe is about right for me, i.e. lightly sweet. I added my own touch by hiding a few chocolate chips in the center of the muffins! http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/1707633/apple-muffins-eggfree They warmed up very well (nice crust on top) over the next few breakfasts. These are not the egg-free muffins. I missed out to take a photo of those.

First entry

Learn something new every once a while or one will slowly but surely grow a little duller every day. I followed the recipe at the back of this spice box and made a delicious dal. Happy dinner.
